What is a fungal nail infection?
Most fungal nail infections occur as a result of the same fungi that causes athlete’s foot, which can also infect the nails. These fungi often live harmlessly on your skin, but they can sometimes multiply and lead to infections. The fungi prefer warm, dark and moist places, making the feet a perfect home for it.
Why laser?
Fungal nail infections are well known for being extremely difficult to treat. An anti-fungal drug therapy, can usually comprise of a prescribed course of antibiotics and/or steroids. This can be long-term (sometimes up to a year) and builds up toxicity levels in your system.
However, if left untreated, the complete nail plate may become infected and potentially result in the loss of the nail. Also, an untreated nail can also spread the infection to other nails.
At Laser Skin Solutions, our laser treatment offers an easy, non-toxic option. This cures the infection in JUST TWO sessions, to be undertaken four weeks apart.
If left untreated, a fungal nail infection can be extremely uncomfortable and unsightly. Even if the infection is on one nail only, all nails will be treated. This is because it can be extremely common for the infection to spread or have already unknowingly spread to other nails.
Please also note - This treatment is not covered on the NHS and will need to be properly diagnosed by a doctor or podiatrist before we commence treatment.
