Laser Pigmentation Treatment
A more even-looking complexion.
Sun exposure, hormonal changes and ageing can all contribute to unwanted pigmentation. Laser and light-based treatments can target certain types of pigmentation, helping to improve the appearance of uneven skin tone and sun damage.
At Laser Skin Solutions, every treatment begins with an assessment of your pigmentation and skin type. This allows us to determine whether laser treatment is appropriate and create a personalised treatment plan.
How laser pigmentation treatment works
- A selected wavelength of light is absorbed by concentrated melanin while surrounding skin is left largely unaffected.
- Short pulses create a photoacoustic effect that fragments dense pigment into smaller particles.
- The body gradually clears deeper fragments, while some superficial pigment may darken temporarily and shed from the skin's surface.
What to expect after treatment
- The sensation is often compared with a quick, hot elastic-band snap, and many appointments take around 15 to 30 minutes.
- Suitable spots commonly darken after treatment and may form a fine micro-crust before naturally flaking away. This can take 7 to 10 days on the face and longer on the body.
- Superficial sun spots may respond within 1 to 3 sessions, while deeper or hormonally influenced pigmentation may require a gentler, longer course.
Assessment comes first
Not every form of pigmentation is suitable for laser treatment. A consultation is essential to assess the type of pigmentation, your skin type and any factors that could affect treatment. Daily broad-spectrum SPF 50 is especially important throughout your course.
