Laser Tattoo Removal
Fade unwanted ink or prepare for a cover-up.
Tastes change. Whether you want to remove a past decision or fade an existing tattoo before a cover-up, laser tattoo removal offers a gradual, personalised approach.
Tattoo ink remains in the skin because its particles are too large for the immune system to clear efficiently. Short pulses of laser energy fragment the pigment into much smaller particles, which the body's lymphatic system can then process over the following weeks.
How laser tattoo removal works
- Ultra-fast pulses of light are absorbed by the tattoo pigment, creating a photoacoustic effect that breaks the ink into microscopic fragments.
- Different colours respond to different wavelengths, allowing suitable black, blue, red and green pigments to be targeted.
- Your body gradually clears the fragmented pigment between appointments, so fading continues after each session.
Your treatment course
Tattoo removal is a layered process because the uppermost pigment is treated first. A typical course may involve 8 to 12 sessions, generally spaced 8 to 10 weeks apart. The number required depends on the ink, colour, density, age, location and your individual response.
- Small areas—usually no larger than the palm of your hand—are treated in one sitting.
- Complete removal cannot be guaranteed, but treatment can also be planned to create sufficient fading for a cover-up.
