Permanent Make-Up Removal

A precise approach to unwanted cosmetic pigment.

Laser semi-permanent make-up removal uses carefully selected light wavelengths to break down cosmetic pigment beneath the skin, allowing the body to gradually clear the fragmented particles.

Because cosmetic pigment sits more superficially than a traditional tattoo, treatment requires a precise and considered approach. At Laser Skin Solutions, this service is for suitable eyebrow pigment only; lip and eyeliner pigment are not treated.

How the technology works

  • A rapid laser pulse creates a photoacoustic effect that fragments dense pigment into much smaller particles.
  • The body's immune and lymphatic systems gradually process the fragmented pigment.
  • The pulse is extremely brief, helping to limit heat spread into surrounding tissue.

Understanding colour oxidation

Some cosmetic pigments contain iron oxides or titanium dioxide. Laser exposure can cause these pigments to change colour, with brown pigment sometimes revealing red, orange or grey tones. This is why a patch test, careful assessment and staged treatment plan are essential.

  • Different wavelengths may be used over successive sessions to target the colours that become visible.
  • Results vary according to pigment brand, composition, colour, depth and previous treatments.

What to expect

  • A course may take around 1 to 4 sessions, although some pigments need more.
  • Appointments are usually spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart to allow the skin to recover and the body to process fragmented pigment.
  • The sensation is commonly described as a quick, hot snap.
